I know that I have had this vin searched once before but I can't find it and the DMV says its not a vin number.
I got it off the plat on the door. but the plate does say that its not for registration purposes.
Heres the number F 1 0 J D 4 9 0 7 0 3

THe only letter that may not be correct is the D. becaseu there is a big scratch thur it but the DMV lady says that its not an I like I first thought.

If this is not the VIN number then where on the 64 ford is it. we have looked everywhere. I would sure hate to have a truck but not be able to liciense it.

The frame # that your DMV will be on the frame passenger side on top of the frame about where the gen. is.

 

VIN's since 1981 on Ford trucks are 17 digits. Prior to 1981, they are 11 digits. Ignorant, pinheaded DMV personnel see those 11 digit VIN's and think they are wrong, because they aren't 17 digits.


That IS the VIN number...it should match the registration. Either find another person to wait on you, or go to your local AAA Club, as they take care of registrations, too.

If law enforcment in your state (or nationwide) ran your VIN, it would come up with the make, model and year of the truck, and the owners name and address. That proves exactly what the VIN is.


There are books put out nationwide by state DMV's. The books show sample VIN's and titles for everything. Your individual state DMV offices should have all those books.

The Kelley Blue Books and NADA price guides all have sample VINS = just like yours.

Many Ford truck historical books have sample VINS = just like yours.

EVERY Ford parts catalog from 1948 shows how to decode the VIN.

My VIN is F10DR639*** It's on the door plate. I've had no problems with registering it.

I HATE reading posts like this. Ppl in some DMV offices think they are Koenig Scheiss, but are nothing more than ignorant, pompous pinheads. The older the vehicle, the stupider they are.

 

Thanks Bill, I like your thoughts on our dmv workers. When I got my 66 back in 1979 dmv here in Oregon would not take the # from the door, they wanted to see the frame rail, they said that the door could have been changed at anytime.

 

Wait till I get to my next project, a 66 longbed going on a 78 F-150 jacked up 4x4 frame and drivetrain. I asked our small town police chief on how to register it. Luckily he's a gearhead ( chevy man but he looks the "other" way on some of my projects bending of the rules) and he said to register it by the body vin, because if I were to get stopped by someone other than him, they would look at the body and say it's not a 78 and the **** would start. Here in Oregon DMV goes be the frame # not what body it has on it, always check with your state DMV before swaping out the frames. I was looking inta 47 F1 on a 75 F100 frame, the owner had used the 47 title, when I took it to the DMV they would not licence it or title it without the 75 title.
