Trouble dropping engine in

I have dropped a 6.9L engine in my 88 f250 (had a 7.3). I have it close to where it needs to be, but I am having trouble pushing it back the last couple of inches and lining it up with the torque converter. Any tips?

get two bolts a bit longer than your bellhousing bolts and cut off the heads. thread them in by hand to the motor to create guide pins. guide the motor into the bellhousing and just before driving it home, align the torque converter bolts to the holes in the flexplate. once in place, put in a couple of bolts and remove your "pins".

The engine and trans. bellhousiing should bolt together without interference from the torque converter.

If the torque converter is keeping the engine and bellhousing from mating, the torque converter is not seated properly on the transmisson pump. If you force the engiine and trans. together, you can damage the converter and transmission pump.

When the torque converter is properly seated on the pump, it sits back about 1/2 inch from the face of the transmisson bellhousing.

Once the engine and trans. are bolted together, the pump can slide forward so you can bolt it to the flexplate.
