Door Buzzer Disable....
After removing the 3 screws to the bottom cover near the steering wheel...I found the same wire lower where you do not need to remove this.
Remove the cover to the fuse area ...At the top near the cover of the steering column you will see a (on my 1999 7.3L) BLACK vynl tube with wires in it coming down out of the cover along the steering colum. They go through a clamp then the wires become visible. They attach to a BROWN connector along the bottom of the main cover to access all the under dash stuff. The wire that is attached to the ign key and used as a ground trigger is also down at the connector. The wire is a black with pink stripe that controls the door chime ground . I simply cut it about 3/4 of an inch up. You can safe it off with a wire nut or something but it wont touch anything. I used a butt splice on the connector side. You can verify it by removing the 3 screws on the bottom cover to the steering column and looking by the ignition key for this same lone wire coming from that area...but I would figure it would be easier to mount any chime toggle switch some want to enstall by routing it from after all the column area at the bottom.
You can put a toggle switch inline on these 2 wires if you wish to turn the door buzzer feature off an on for whatever reason.
As for the 7.3L I cut the same black pink wire...I remember it doing something I thought worked. The door was buzzing then it didnt buzz anymore...and it didnt for a few days...then I put the key in the accessory position to listen to the radio with the door open and ding ding ding I was gonna go crazy. Voices were saying Kill KILL KILLLLL... So I went a step farther and removed the wire and its clip from the key cyl like the postings have said...still that didnt work...So now I'm going crazy. I removed the 4 10mm bolts holding the fuse block....tried to remove the cover to the back..no...so I removed the entire thing..there are 2 10mm bolts holding all the wires in place on the back..>I removed the cover very carefully and found the green solder board....carefully prying the connector underneath the board that connects it to the fuse block I seperated it and found the litter sucker with the hole in the bottom and 2 pins. Used a solder gun to take it out!!!!!!!
NO MORE BUZZER IF THE BUZZER ISNT EVEN IN.....
Just couldnt take it anymore.....
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Great site though...with all of us maybe we can get by with these trucks!
