shock question
Guys, as you can see at the bottom I have a 1985 F250 that does not have a lift on it, but I have an add-a-leaf in the back and front that makes the truck sit 1-2 inches higher than normal. I had to replace my rear shocks and before I ordered them from the local auto parts, I told them of my situation and asked if I could or should try to find shocks that are an inch or so longer than stock...the response was don't worry about it, jus t go with the good 'ol monroe magnums and that's it. well I put them in yesterday and really examined it...the shocks only have an inch of travel before they are fully extended. what do you guys think I should do? leave it or try to find something that will give me more travel? if so how much?

I would find a ditch or something to drive over that would really make one of the tires hang low, and then see if the shock will still fit up or have enough travel. If your suspension is somewhat stiff, you might not have to worry about it.

I run ProComp 9000s on my 86 F250 4x4. I bought stock size. I have AirLift Air Shocks on the rear that when aired up gives me a couple of inches and I don't have any problems. I was looking at the rear shocks the other day and they only have about 2" of total travel. Franklin2 said it. If you jack up the body and let the springs hang you will see how much travel you have. As for Monroe shocks. I bought a set of gas filled shocks for my wife's Dodge D250 2wd from Napa and they were only like $15 ea. In fact I think the fronts were only like $11. They are built by Monroe. They work great at half the price.
