Too Much Installed Spring Height

I just got my heads back from the machine shop. I prefer to assemble all my stuff so once I got it home I started into it. I found out that my Spring install height is .3" too much. I compared the manley valves to the old valves and found the lock groove was about .2" farther up the valve. I called manley and they said the valves I have are standard for a 1977 460. I can use different retainers and locks and nock it down by .1" but that still leaves me .2" taller than cam specs for spring. I was told not to shim more than .06" What other solutions is there? Do I need to try a different valve company? Is there different valves for different 460's? Thanks for any help you may have.

Something don't sound right here .3 is .300 that nearly a 1/3 of and inch is that what you are measuring. If so I would suspect the valve springs to be way to loose. You need to check the at rest valve spring tension. If it is ok then you have to play the custom length push rods to get the valve train geometry right. What head are you running and why would manley make the lock groove nearly 1/4 of an inch longer doesn't make sense to me.
