Cam Tensioner
Does anyone know if Ford still had the cam tensioner problem with the 2001 model. I am looking at a 2001 Explorer Sport with 5 speed, but do not want to deal with the problem. I like the OHV engine better even though it has a little less power, seems like it has less problems.

The 2001 SOHC 4.0 Equipped Explorers are subject to the same Cam tensioner issues... the issues with two camshaft chain tensioners was resolved by 2002, but there was still an issue with the main (jackshaft) chain tensioner in early 2002 models (like mine)... I would have someone check to see if the update has been performed on that 2001 model, they did offer an extended warranty / recall on the camshaft chain parts until, I think, 70,000 miles. I'd stay away...
