I'm going to be installing a drop axle in my 56. I removed the steering linkage and want to replace the tie rod ends. I was able to break the nut loose on each end. Since I don't know much about suspensions, how does the tie rod end come out? Mine are probably frozen and aren't budging. I know they have threads. I've been squirting them with break free lube and they seem frozen? Am I doing something wrong here?. Can anyone help me on how to get these ends off? Thanks.
If you are trying to remove the ends where they screw into the tube, try laying the tube on something solid, like the flat pad on a vise, and tapping on the tube where the end is threaded in. This should loosen the rust that has collected for 50+ years.
Thanks Jeff, That's exactly what I'm trying to do. These suckers are frozen in there and no budging. I've been squirting the JB Blaster stuff and it's seems to be taking it in the treads. I'll try the tapping routine. Can you spell FRUSTRATION....again. I haven't even started on putting the new front end in. LOL....Wouldn't have it any other way.

If using the tapping and penetrating oil method doesn't work, next try a little heat from a propane torch and then stick a candle to it, the wax will melt and be drawn into the threads.
OK, I tried the tapping, lubing, tapping, pipe wrench, big wrenches, and this thing is not breaking loose. I'll try the heat and candle trick now. I know there is a way of breaking this loose. I refuse to take it to a front end shop. Thanks again for helping me Jeff. If not, this steering rod will make a nice javelin.
Yep sir, OK I got them out. Tried the wax and heat, no go! My neighbor came over and we took it to his garage. He has the mother of all vises. Clamped the rod down, used a open wrench, wrapped the end with a rag and both me and him pushed down on it. Boooyaaaaa! We have contact!!!!. Both came loose. I have to admit, the side with the heat and candle trick broke loose much easier than the other side. I squirted about a half can of the JB lube on the threads, and it only penetrated about half the way down the treads. Anyways, on to the rest of the front end. A big thank you to mechmagcn for his help here. Very much appreciated...
No problem, glad I could be of some assistance. Parts that haven't been moved in many years sometimes can take drastic measures to break loose. Glad you were able to remove them.
