Dpfe
I have a 2001 f150 Lariat with a 4.6 L engine.The service engine light is on .I had a OBD check run and it came up with a P1401 error code.So I bought a new DPFE.But my truck doesn't have one.The bracket is there where it is suppose to be,and the new one fits perfectly,but there are no lines to hook up.Anybody have any ideas?

Keep looking.
Find the EGR valve (hopefully you know that it looks like). Follow the exhaust tube back towards the manifold untill you find two small lines that branch off. Those are the sample tubes that the DPFE sensor connects to. Later model engines, probably inlcuding yours, use a second sensor style that pugs right onto the sample tube stalks.
Verify you have the correct sensor. If you bought it at a parts store, it's probably the wrong one anyway.

Yes I know what an EGR valve looks like,my father is a retired mechanic,my brother was a parts manager,and I was a service writer.The vacuum line goes directly to the Electronic Vacuum Regulator.This is a CA.emissions vehicle.

Try what Steve discribed to find where the sensor is supposed to be.
On the larger diameter tube between the drivers side exhaust manifold and the upper intake area back under the cowl.
The sensor has no vacuum supplied to it.
It has an electrical connector and two small hoses of different sizes that slide onto the sample tubes.
I can find no reference to a specific CA appplication but it could still be..
If you still can't find it, go to a dealer and talk them into looking it up and printing you a copy.
From what you say your experience is as a writer, you know you can do that.
You can also go the any auto parts website and call up a photo of the device.
401 code is a low flow test failure. It's possible it's not the DPFE but a plugged port behind the EGR or even the EGR control circuit.
