Hey guys been gone for a while but i have a new problem with my truck(87 F150 302 A40d 4x4) I changed out the ECT and when i turned the key to fire the truck it started, but it wouldn't stop cranking. It just kept on cranking till the battery went dead. Kinda scary i thought she was gonna blow. Anyway i think it may be the starter solinoid, but i'm not quite sure. It started fine, before this and maybe i bumped somehting when i changed the ect.
My first thought is the starter solenoid. There was somebody else that had this problem a while ago... I don't remember how he fixed it... Guess I'm not very much help... hah

yep, your thought was right, its your solenoid, thats one of the first things that went out on my clutch, and i had to put it in 4th gear and "stall" it to get it to stop. Hope this helps.

If the solenoid had bad/contacts stuck together, it would continually provide 12 votls to the starter motor. Stalling the engine could shut down the engine but the starter motor would continue to try to crank the engine.
If it were an ignition switch problem, pulling the small push on lug at the solenoid should disable the solenoid.
Could be the starter bendix drive is bad or sticking.

yes, like you said, but my solenoid had bad contacts b/c the guy before me was a professional welder and had welded teh wires to the solenoid, and it was just a matter of time before this happened
Mine was the solenoid. Just wacked it with a big wrench. Has done it twice since. The last time it stopped when the hood popped (guess it knew I only had a hammer that day). I'll change it someday.
