post counts

just some idle thoughts....

I have been visiting this site since March 2004.. I always felt a little insecure about the number of posts I made in the Excursion and related threads...I really dont know that much about auto mechanics so I always thought it best not to say too much and just read and researched a lot.. After all, if someone had over 3000 posts, SURELY they must be awfully smart and well respected "truck" people.. Right?

Around May 2007 I started to vist the non-automotive section and had an enlightening experiance.. NOW I know how some folks have 1000's of posts to their name! (what an idiot huh?) lol In addition, after I actually joined FTE (and visit the members area) the fun is really kicking in.. Unfortunately, the competitor in me makes me feel like I have to catch up!!

OK, I just added another post to my name.. only a few thousand left to go!

Post count NEVER equals poster's intelligence. There are a number of examples where that is true...starting with me.

I have grown to that realization over time, Ken... Although I NEVER thought that applied to you (cough, cough, choke)

Actually... on another subject entirely, I was waiting to see your reply to the guy who called you a nasty old goat in another thread.. I was hoping for some entertaining rebuttal...

I heard that members are most intelligent between 2000 and 3000 posts......

I'm ready to take a sabbatical now......

I look at posting as like hanging out at the barbershop or around the campfire. You may add something relevant, you may add something off topic or you can just listen -or read as the case may be - and savor. Post a lot or a little, doesn't really matter. Just enjoy yourself.

i just like yakking about things, no one where i live is smart enough or cares enough i should say, to discuss any topic of importance past the weather or the nascar race.

i don't even own a ford truck, but not by choice of course.

And then there are those of us who have nothing to contribute but have a compulsive posting problem. Is there a twelve step program for us?

No twelve step program, but the guys in the WA Chapter gave me a box of patches last month... Those didn't work either!

One can view another members posts just clicking that person's user name and follow the link.

Then you can get a better Idea where one spends their time and what they have had to say.

I'm presently in a 57 step program.

I noticed the high post counts when I first joined also. I have found that some come by them legitimately, and some who don't. The latter will take a comment and break it up into three or four separate posts in order to increase the count. Phonies in my book. jd

Well when I joined Mil1ion had about 15k posts and Torque1st wasn't too far behind at about 12k.

Most of my posts are in Towing, 73-79 Trucks, and the General Forums. Back when the site was young we did have some good threads going that could easily generate 15 posts for a guy - all those heated issues. That was back when we had the "Pig Pen" too. Oh how things have changed...
