Hey everyone, I have a 99 f350 7.3, and my air is not blowing as cold as it used too..... Is there a way to refill it myself, or should I take it to a shop? Thanks for the help.
Black 88GT, First you should follow the refrigerant lines around the engine compartment and look for signs of a significant leak. It will most likely look like a residue of oil and dirt. If you find signs of a large leak, stop and take it to a shop. Otherwise I would do it myself. If you look on the passenger side under the hood you'll find the receiver/dryer. The low pressure port is where you will attach the hose . I know that a lot of people will say that you need to use a manifild guage set but if all you need is a little charge I don't see a need. If your compressor cycles on and off while you're charging then you need to disconnect the plug on the low pressure cut-out switch and place a jumper across the 2 wires in the plug itself. I would use one of the cans with the guage on it just to have a rough idea at what the pressure is. You want 27-28 psi at the low pressure port with the compressor running.
Another thing that I had go wrong on my '99 and by buddies '01 is the switch in the dash went bad. If the air is cold sometimes and then hot others, it may be the temp control in the dash.
Just another idea.

Thank you for the help! I dont think there is a leak, because its still cold... Just not as cold as it was 3 years ago when I got the truck. I will still look at the lines and head to Kragen to see what I can get. Thanks!
