Thumbs up Performance not noise

I am interested in a cat back system that improves performance without being loud. I've got an '07 Lariat SCrew with 6.5' bed, 5.4 engine w/ 3.73 posi.

I tend to take 3-4 hr trips with the wife to visit the grand kids and don't want to have much of an increase in cruising noise. Also may add an i/c Roushcharger in the future. Prefer a stainless system for longevity.

Thought about the Roush system but don't like the way it comes under the spare tire. (appears to hang too low) I do like the appearance of the Gibson Extreme dual system on their website but don't know how it routes around the spare. I would prefer a system that exits behind the rear tires for a somewhat stock appearance. Any suggestions or information on a system that provides performance without much of an increase in sound would be appreciated.

Well many people go for the magnaflow they say it improves performance the best and its not that much louder than stock look on the website i think they have kits exiting behind the rear wheel or before (passenger side) good luck

The Dynomax Super Turbo is pretty quite for a performance muffler. The Magnaflow is not as loud as most. Rather tame really, but go for one with a larger housing, that mellows things out a bit.

I called and talked with both Gibson and Magnaflow today. They both recommended the single behind the wheel system. Right now it looks like Magnaflow has the best price for this system.

Thanks for the feedback, anyone have any personal experience with either of these single tailpipe systems? They both have 3" tailpipe w/ 4" ss tip.

I found a sound clip for the Gibson but not for the Magnaflow system. Are there any posted elsewhere?

A single Exit behind the rear wheel is going to be one of the quietest places to exit. I would get the magnaflow over the Gibson. You may also want to check out JBA, Bassani and Banks for a Cat-Back system.

I have had both Magnaflow and Gibson on my truck, 03 SuperCrew 4x4 w/5.4. Both 3 inch single system. The Gibson is more quiet than the Magnaflow with similar performance. The Gibson is also available in stainless if that is what you are looking for.

I just tried the FM 50 series, and found it to be very quiet. The 70 series is quieter still.

I say go with Borla. Had it on my 04 FX4 and loved it. Not loud unless you stomp into it and had a live tone to it at idle and driving around.

Well, I ended up getting the Magnaflow 16612 stainless system and I am very pleased for my needs and somewhat stock appearance. It has a nice tone when you accelerate but seems to be quiet as the stock system when cruising at a steady throttle.

Thanks for all the responses, there are many good choices out there and sometimes the decision comes down to availability, cost, and just making a choice.

Good to hear ya got a system you like, some times you can guess wrong
and end up with something you hate. Third set of mufflers were perfect over a month of testing over here.
