Engine/ tranny compatibility

Will an older 88 7.3L diesel bolt up to the E4OD tranny foram say a 92 F250 ???? Is there a difference in the blocks when they went to the turbo diesels???

I think the 7.3's all used the same bolt pattern. I'm not sure if they changed when they became directly injected, but I'd venture to say not. Going by what I've always been told, the Diesels had their own pattern, the 460 had it's own pattern, and the 300/302/351 had it's own pattern, in terms of transmission bolt patterns.

I'm not sure how the transmission will act seeing how the 88 didn't come with the E4OD originally.

My suggestion is get one from a 95 or 96, which are the two best years for the E4OD. Someone else will have to shed you some light in terms of how it's going to be controlled, and if it can from your 7.3.

You would need either an aftermarket controller or the computer and some wiring from a later ('90-94) non-Powerstroke diesel, provided it was originally hooked up to an E4OD.
