I have an 88 F250. The stock tires are 10 ply load E, but to get larger load E tires is going to hit me hard in the wallet... Is it ok to use a D-rated tire? What are the consequences?
Thanks for all your help!
load rating is a two digit number. The letter you had is the load range which is the number of plys. D is 8 E is 10. It would affect weight capacities of your truck. you could find a comparable tire in that number of plys most likely.
here check out this site, you'll need to scroll down a bit.
What you mostly need is the load rating in lbs, not the load range letter representing the number of plies, which may or may not be correct (my load range C tires have 5 plies, for instance), though load range normally indicates the max PSI. (35, 50, 65, 80, etc.) .
A D should be fine unless you tow or carry something really heavy.
