hey everyone. i got a question. i have a 1964 ford f100 and i am contomplating making it a 4x4 from 2wd. can i just swap in a front diff and a divorced t-case? or is ther more to it? is there a more modern truck tranny that can be swapped in place of the t98? maybe this wouold be a good situation for a autotrans/t-case swap huh?

Reason: adding to it
For my 2 cents worth, I would look at another truck that had the running gear that you would like to run and maybe needed a new body, and install your sheetmetal to that chassis.
Either way what you have in mind is a lot of work, and I feel this way could be the less complicated way to achieve it of the two.
I gotta agree with you John, making a 4X4 out of a 4X2 is the hardest way to get a 4X4 I can think of. . . .
That 64 body will bolt on the same wheelbase 64-72 4X4 chassis with a Live front axle set up, form what I understand. He still needs to mess with steering Column mounting. But he will have all the Crossmembers and engine mounts, and be way ahead.
On a 64 and older, you'll have to relocate the front cab mounts too. They are way different. I'd have to say a later chassis (78/79) is the way to go. Better brakes, better aftermarket support and so on.
