blowing o-ring on oil filter

ok its got the right filter the old one is not still stuck to the mounting surface just to clear those 2 possibilitys up.

its a 99 f150 w/4.2 it had a valve job done on drivers side of the motor. its not my truck its a girl i know. it didnt make it very far from the shop when it ran out of oil. they had it towed to her house cas shop was closed go figure

i went and checked it out put new filter and oiil went to start it and it blows the o-ring on filter and dumps oil in about 2 seconds.

guy at the shop says its not related to valve job

not sure myself i think it is

how is the oil routed thru the 4.2 he is saying somethin about a pop off valve in the oil pump sounds fishy and he want like another $500 to fix it

i have never seen a pump put out to much pressure ive paid money to get extra pressure got to be blockage some where past filter just dont know anything about the 4.2

The oil pump is on the outside of the engine. Your lucky!
On the front cover and can be opened up to expose the gears and the relief valve for inspecion and cleaning.
Spend about $18 and get a Haynes manuel.
Look on page 2a-15, section 15 bottom center and fig 15-3.
My only guess is the relief valve is stuck closed. Why, only you will see, once the pump is opened or parts replaced. If debre was picked up out of the pan and got by the strainer into the pump, then I could see a possible "unforseen" problem.

The head removal should not have caused such a problem under normal circumstances but you never know.

I'd also say the relief valve is stuck. Ford manual instructions say to remove the timing cover to access the relief valve spring & ball.

" 10. Remove the engine timing cover. For additional information, refer to Engine Front Cover in this section.

11. Remove the plug over the oil pressure relief valve."

Maybe someone who has done it can say for sure. I hope for your benefit the manual is wrong.

You'll have to pull the front timing cover to get access to the oil pressure relief valve. And a sticking/stuck relief valve is exactly what this sounds like.
