Knock, Knock....
My symptom is that the knock at idle doesn’t go away as the rpm’s increase. Interesting enough I've heard two other Ford diesels at speed that have the exact same sound.
What is getting me is that it runs fine (no misses or hesitation), doesn't smoke at all (except some white smoke until it gets up to temp which I think is normal), it starts immediately, and overall seems to have acceptable power. It just knocks something fierce at all times. But it doesn’t sound like a rod or main knock like I’ve heard on gas engine.
Here's what I've done so far:
New injectors
Pulled the valve covers and checked the valve train (looked good with no bent push rods or anything out of the ordinary)
New electric lift pump
New Fuel filter, water pump, alternator, power steering pump, batteries, all fluids/belts/hoses, etc.
I can loosen each injector line and it creates a miss like it should.
The only thing I haven’t changed/looked at is the Injector Pump. Can it give me symptoms like I mention, but still run fine?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If the wrong bolts (too long) are installed then they will contact the IP timing gear.... usually the IP main shaft breaks....... On the lower 2 it contacts the cam........

Wrist Pin: It could be. I've had a wrist pin knock on a gas engine and it didn't sound this "harsh", but there are a lot higher forces in the diesel, so maybe it won't sound the same.
Bolts: Yep. I had read on here about the different lenghts and made sure they went in where they belong.
Pump: I'm not sure on what it actually is, but it is one of those small square ones which should be abour 4-7 psi., 35 gph (it was on the truck when I got it and when I tested it, it appeared to be working fine with plenty of flow into a container, but I didn't test the pressure.).
Thanks again, and keep 'em coming.
