I'm swapping a ZF 5 speed into an 86 Bronco. The transmission mount point is ~ 2 inches longer than stock - i.e. the crossmember sits 2 inches farther back when it's bolted up to the mount on the tranny.
Drilling holes in the lower part of the frame for the crossmember wouldn't be too much worry, but drilling holes in the top of the frame rail and inserting the mounting bolts for the support brackets will require lifting the body.
Would the crossmember from a later model 5 speed Bronco/truck solve the problem or am I stuck drilling holes? I'm sorta stuck until I figure out a solution.
Seems there aren't many 4x4 F250's in the junkyards around here. I've called 30-40 places and only a couple even said, "Yeah, we got a lot of Ford trucks come on out an take a look." I figure the odds of finding one with a ZF are pretty long.
How different is the crossmember from a truck with a manual tranny to a truck with the automatic tranny? Any other suggestions other than junkyards where I can get the correct one? Can you still buy one new?
