Hey again, not a good sign with all this being Ive had the truck a month and a half. but I need to replace the release bearing in my truck. so I figure of course while im in there I should just replace clutch, pressure plate etc.... as well. but here is my problem. I have called around and have had a couple of garages tell me that they cant do it because I have the zf transmission. they say that thier transmission jacks cant handle it. I have access to a lift, transmission jack and a whole array of tools and have pretty good knowlege of vehicles. So I figured I would just do it all myself. but because of these garages argument I am worried that the jack I have won't work. does anyone out there know what the zf transmission in a '01 f250sd 5.4l v8 4x4 weighs. the jack says it can handle up to 1000lbs. so if anyone knows if it will work please let me know. thanks.
I find it hard to believe a manual weights more than 1/2 a ton, but I am not an expert. I imagine their problem is how to hold on to the transmission while it is on the jack, which case, you will need to build a cradle out of 2x4s.
Trans removal is one of the few jobs I prefer to do on the ground. I find it easier to control the trans and not have as far to fall. I have only done t-18's and it wasn't a bad job. However, the transfer case is usually a heavy mfer and I find it easier to pull the transfer case and then the transmission.
For clutch disk, pressure plate and throwout bearing, I liked my center force on my old truck. I used the dual friction pressure plate, the center force 1 disk and their standard bearing, to build a CF 2 setup.
