I have a 1995 ford Ranger 3.8 automatic that at times was hard to shift out of park. Now after not driving it for awhile and slowly but surely getting worse to not shifting at all I have to put it back on the road for a trip to Florida. I don't know if it makes a difference or not but while it was working at times it seem to me that the hotter the outside temperture was the better it would shift out of park. The first year after the xmission was rebuilt it worked perfectly. Also I have trouble unlocking the door when it gets cooler like in the mornings 60 degrees or so. At 50 degrees forget it. I have to wait until about noon or when it warms up. This applys to both doors. I had a new key but that didn't help. Neither did graphite. Appreciate any advice.. Thanks.. Bob
Paw Paw,
The tranny fluid is good.. The locks are manual..Does the brake pedal have anything to do with it? I know you have to have the brake pedal pushed down before the truck will shift out of park..
OK, so when you say now it won't shift at all, you mean you are having problems physically getting it out of "park" & into Drive, but when it goes, the tranny shifts ok.
Good point about the brake interlock, if it's not adjusted properly, or is damaged, it could not release the tranny shift lever & seeing as how the tranny as been messed with, maybe that interlock is misadjsted, or is otherwise acting out, so inspect it closely.
On the manual door locks, are you saying your havng problems unlocking the doors with the key, because the lock cylinder won't turn, with the key in it????
If so my drivers side began doing that about a year & a half ago & I know we're not supposed to lube a lock with other than maybe graphite, but I sptized the key with WD-40 & it loosened right up, but now it could use another spritzing, as it'll hang up a little now & then.
