Core support help

After taking the front end off of my 66, I discovered that my core support was alot worse than I thought it was. One of the mounting locations is completely gone as well as several holes that I didn't see before. NPD has 61-64 core supports for around $250 and since I don't forsee winning the lottery, an e-bay score is out of the picture. So the question is, what specifically is different between the 61-64 and 65-66. I've gathered that the 65-66 4x4 uses the same one as the 61-64, so what's the difference between those and the 65-66 2wd? I need to know what I'm getting into before I cough up the $250. Thanks.

Gene

Here is a thread where the differences are discussed->core support It takes a little work, but it does fit. This is what I ended up doing with a good junkyard version for my '66.

Thanks for the thread! It seems fairly simple. That makes me a little nervous.

Had you posted topic a week ago there happened to be a couple of supports on Ebay. If you don't need in the short term you may try checking their auction. Not sure if aware, but can set search where ebay emails notice if item of interest comes up for auction; also can narrow the email notification to items of interest in your area. It's unbelieveable what they are getting for the 65-66 supports. About 2-3 weeks a ago a 66 support sold on ebay for $525, wow, that's what i said. It would be cheaper to try and find the entire truck for that amount of money.

Before I knew I needed a new one, I posted here letting everyone know about one of the e-bay supports. I still cant bring myself to spend $500-$600 on a used core support and still have to clean it up and hope that the condition wasn't misrepresented. Looks like it's a new one for me. Now if I can just find a good 460/C6 (or C4) combo, I'd be set.

Ya I used a 64 out of an f-600 for my 65 F-100. very minor differences. Had to fab the angle brackets for the front of the inner fender wells,(just took them off the old one and spot welded them on). ANd had to change to the older body support rubbers on the rad support. the rest was the same.
