Possible spider bite?

For the past three days Ive had a nasty red mark on my foot that measures 3/4" x 1." Its about an inch above my middle toe. When i first noticed it, it itched non stop. The next day it hurt. It was a achey-stingy kind of pain if that makes sense. It didnt hurt that bad really. It also secreted puss or something everywhere where it was red. Today, it dosnt hurt or itch but its a darker red.

Should i get it checked out? The only reason i ask is cause ive noticed a lot of nasty spiders recently and i never really get a rash or bad reaction like this. I also know what they have to do to brown recluse bites. The problem with that is theres no meat underneath the skin on my foot, its bone and veins. What do you guys think?

Well, two possible outcomes. Either it will heal by itself and go away, or it will get worse. If you let it go long enough without it getting better, you will lose your foot.

If that isn't enough reason to go to a doc, I don't know what is.

Definetly see a doc. If there is a problem time is of the essence to start correct treatment. Many spider bites can cause neurological problems. Good luck.

Pus=infection. I hope you aren't seeing any red streaks heading up your foot. That is a bad sign.
Had a scraped knuckle (we all get 'em) get infected once. They were concerned that I might lose a finger because I didn't act when the first warning signs appeared and the infection spread rapidly.

I got bit by a black widow once and it swelled up the size of a golfball in my forearm. I still have a scar from it. I never went to the doctor but should have.

Listen to the folks above - see a doctor. If you have a fever - go to the emergency room.

Sounds like a Recluse or Hobo spider bite.

These types of bites leave a cone shaped cavity in the flesh. You say there is no meat where the bite is. So that means the cone will extend down into the meat between the bones which could be worse.

At best you have an infected bite, puss and red. At worst you have an infected Recluse or Hobo bite which will cause some serious scaring and possible complications. Our neighbor had these bites and they are nasty and leave permanent scars about as big as a quarter and fairly deep.

If you see red veins moving up your leg or foot, you are in serious trouble, blood poisoning. Either way, having it checked out is the wise move.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

It's a good thing you posted this, I was thinking about doing a search but with my EXTREME dislike for spiders (i know i'll have to see a picture of the spider as well as the bite, and that alone would send me over the edge) and that post seals it. No spider bite search's for me! Thanks for the heads up .

Oh yeah, good stuff there.....even the minor bites make my black widow bite look like a mosquito did it...and it was pretty bad.
