i got this crazy idea

about putin a 1ton rear end and suspention under the back of my 71,then de tuning it a bit so i could pull a 38ft goosneck with my tractors on them to the shows. other then the fact id have 5lugs in front and 8 in the rear what would be any draw backs to this idea? id be pullin the goose with 2 tractors that weigh around 6000lbs a piece

I think it is a very bad idea. That is a very large load to try to handle and stop with a piece meal light duty truck. If nostalgia is what you are after, find a late model 450-750 and fit bumpside sheet metal on the chassis. State surplus and the like are good places to find a donor.

You would feel much better knowing your truck would do what you wanted, and do it safely.

Or at least 73-9 F-350 HD with thicker frame & heavier spring perches, larger brakes and dual anti sway bars. It's all about controlling what you're pulling and I believe 12K + the ULW Trailer weight are a bit heavy for a light or medium application frame if you had an emergency or qwik maneuver to make or deal with. . . . . Just my $.02 Wizzard

Want to tow with a pickup, but want something unique? Look for a Diamond T or a Federal pickup from the 1930's/40's. Yes, they did make them. Nash even made a one ton, body on frame wrecker in 1946/48, but only for their dealers. They look similar to the "Advanced Design" trucks from some other manufacturer, but I ain't saying who that was.
