i called around for pricing on my road armor bumper being powder coated white and i was talking to this guy who said he powder coats in chrome and black chrome and he gurantees it to be just as shiny as my black chrome wheels....well i would probably NOT get my bumper black chrome but i know of some other things that would look sweet...but ive never heard of this...has anyone of you heard of black chrome powder coat?
Black chrome comes in two flavors: powder coating & dipping (like standard chrome).
I believe this particular powder coating process was developed for & adopted from the production of solar panels. Once it is applied & baked, it can be polished and a clear coat can be added to enhance the luster.
The dip/bath-based black chrome process is often preceded with base layers of other metals for additional protection. These sub-layers can also be chosen to add to the depth & color of the black chrome layer.
Chrome powder has been around for years, and though they have gotten better, they are still not as shiney as chrome, nor do they have the same appearance. Some of them are close, but just not the same.
Plenty of Candy topcoats are looking kinda cool, and even the high temp stuff is impressive. I have even seen a few examples of the illusion stuff that lots of the boat guys and sand rail guys are going to. But for all out shine, cant beat good old fashioned chrome. (Even black chrome, same thing.)
