alternator help
My 88 f150, F150, 4.9 al;ternator smoked.my alternator has two plugs. the square one and another flat one with three wires, the flat one melted. what is it for? the person before me changed both doors , it has crank windowa- could the orig doors have power?. i cant tell the colr of thr wires to rewire the alt HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you have a 2G alternator. This should be upgraded to a 3G. Very easy and inexpensive if you use pull-a-part for an alternator.
You are lucky the plug melted. The 2 G has been known to cause a fire that in some cases gets the entire truck and the garage it is parked in.
If you do a search for "3g upgrade" you should find lots of info.
