Transmission problems

I have a 90 Ranger 2wdr Custom with a 4.0/AOD. The other day while driving the trans suddenly started to slip and jump in and out of gears. When checking the oil I found it was empty. Added a couple of quarts and started the engine only to find oil pouring from between the engine and transmission. Since used parts are hard to get over here in Sweden I was wondering if any other AOD transmission from other Fords fits? Is there a difference in 2wdr and 4wdr trans? 4wdr transmissions are availabe here but haven't found any 2wdr. Or could it just be the input shaft seal that's gone bad?
Thanks,
Mats

My guess is that the tranny front seal is kaput.

Not sure which other transmissions will fit.

If you don't get a reply here, try the transmission or engine forums, bet those guys would know, or would have a good idea where you could get accurate input.

The transmission is an A4LD, not AOD.
AOD transmissions were used behind larger engines.

And it is vehicle / engine specific.

A 4wD can be converted but this entails replacing the output shaft.
That means a total tear down.

It sounds as though the front seal let loose.
You may get lucky and just need that replaced.

I would have the front seal replaced first before replacing the entire Tranny.
