My 1992 F150 Flairside has the Electronic "Shift on the Fly" Transfer Case and even after replacing a burned out motor, it will not remain engaged in 4wd High when shifted to that position ... Usually it will remain engaged for a half-mile or so and then goes into Neutral ... I have to stop and shift it back into 2wd, then into 4wd High again ... Regardless, it keeps dis-engaging and returns to Neutral, so I have to drive it in 2wd all the time ...
What I REALLY want to do is remove the electric motor and install some kind of Manually Operated Cable or Linkage setup to ensure the T-Case remains engaged when needed ... Does such a Manually Operated Kit exist ... ?? Any help is greatly appreciated ...
It sounds like there are internal problems in that T-case, shifting forks or something. I don't know of any kits you can buy to convert to manual shift. What I did was changed the whole transfercaser to a manual shift. It was very easy. Make sure you take all the linkages and mounts from the donar truck. There is also a plate in your floor that comes out for the shifter but it is glued on pretty good. That was the best thing I ever did on my bronco.
It worked just fine with the original motor, until the motor burned out ... After installing the replacement motor (from CarQuest), I began experiencing the dis-engagement problems ...
I will look into doing the swap, as you suggested.
Thanks for the valuable information.
