LAST EDITED ON 09-Jul-00 AT 01:04 PM (EST)[p]I have a 302 block that is in very good condition and I would like to rebuild it, the only problem is that I have no idea what year it is. The only stamped # that I can find on the block is on the front driver side deck, it says (4E1V), the cast # by the starter is (D4DE-6015-AA) it also says (4A3) by the starter. can any one tell me what year this block is, and any other info you might have? Thanks. Rodney Cooke rodcooke@nbnet.nb.ca
D4 is a '74 block. the next D in my book says it's from a Maverick or Granada. I'm sure you know it's not roller block but it can be converted to roller lifters. Depending on the application it may not be worth it. Summitt has rebuild kits that are very inexpensive. Good luck.
Rodney, here's the scoop:
d means the '70's, the 4 is the last digit in the year (d4 means '74)
the number by the starter is the cast date, yours was cast jan 3 1974.
the number on the deck is the assembly date, yours was assembled june 1 1974.
be aware that the 73-76 blocks were .030" taller deck height than the others, and will not make compression unless the block is milled.
just my $.02
I've never heard that before (about the blocks). I'm not doubting you I would just like to be enlightened. What else was different, crank, pistons, etc. Just wondering.
I thought that sounded wierd. I love the 302/5.0 engine and have worked on quite a few and had never heard of that (except in the 351) I'm always looking for more info.
Thanks Jeff
