Hot Air

Has anyone ever looked at adding louvres (sp) to the top of the hood over the turbo and over the intake for additional cooling and cooler air charge. I've seen it done on jeeps and it made me wonder how effective that would be.

I haven't heard of anyone adding louvers, but quite a few guys on here have the heat extractor hoods, or cowl hoods, that allow the hot engine air to escape from under the hood easier. Like this

I looked at these for my jeep but ended up just selling it. The vents range in price from about $10 to $100 so I figured they would be a lot cheaper and also I kind of like the industrial look of a black vent.

I would think you'd be better off ceramic coating and insulating those parts. So that they don't absorb or release as much heat. For moving air you have to figure out where the air is going to come from and where it's going to go. Typically the windshield creates some air pressure pushing back down on the hood, so I don't thing louvers will suck much air out of the bay.

Well, I'm going to try it. Headed down to the local hot rod shop to have them louvre a piece of sheet metal for me. A little black paint and a 12"by5" hole in the hood. I am going to place it over the turbo for now but if I notice a big difference in egt I'll add it to the top of the air intake next. Keep you updated with picts.
