Pining when taking off then stops

Hi I have a 99 f-150 extended cab 4x4 off road with 176,000 mi. When I have the air conditioner on lately and taking off from a stop the engine sounds like a deisel only for a second then goes away. I have noticed only on a couple of ocasions it pinging under load at road speed. I have owned this truck since new and its never done this until lately. I pulled off EGR valve and it was spotless their are no codes showing up or no check engine light on. My mechanic thinks it needs injector and top engine cleaning, that would make sence if it was pining all the time but to start out from stop and go away seems like the timing is advanced to far then retards to where its supposed to be. Does anyone have advice for this ? Thank You

I'd agree with the mechanic, I just had a motorvac done for the first time at 210K and it stopped my pinging as well as smoothed out the idle a bit. I would say mine has 95% or more highway miles but the top end was still dirty enough to cause problems.
