On my 1952 F-1 when the park brake is released one or maybe both of the wheels don't release. After I start moving they brake loose and everything works OK.A new main cable has been replaced and I thought there is suppose to be a spring at the equilizer under the bed! What should I check? Thanks,Russell
There should be springs inside the drum on the cables. There is no spring on the equalizer. Most common problem is rust/crud in the cable/sheath. They rust together and just quit working. Replacement cables from the equalizer to the wheels are available and well worth the cost.
Some of the rear cables have a greae fitting that is usually neglected. See if yours have them.
Have you pulled your rear drums to inspect the brakes? It is also real common for the shoes to cut a ledge on the pads they ride against on the backing plates. I've had shoes drop down onto that ledge and refuse to come back, the springs just can't do it themselves. You can weld up and grind the pads to smooth if you are careful.
