What does it do?

So, one of the features I had put on my '08 was "Rapid Heat Cab Supplemental Heating System". Anyone care to tell me what this is? Can't find anything about it in my owners manual. Thought here in Alaska you can never have enough heat!!

Thumbs up

That is basically an electric heater. What it does is start to warm the cab before the cooling/heating system. The end result is having a warmer cab sooner...until the SD 6.4L PSD has a chance to warm itself. We all know that a diesel takes just a bit more time than a gaser to warm up.

Hope that helps...

farwhitenorth,
How can you say you're a photographer and you haven't created a gallery?

you can also get an aux heater that is on a timer so when you plug in the block heater/battery warmer etc... it kicks on to warm the cab before you ever start it. I used one when I was in Fairbanks. I simply wired it up to the block heater plug and plug the extension cord to a timer on the wall. Had it kick in about 3 hours before I was going to work. May not need it in Anchorage but it sure is nice to jump into a warm truck when it is -20

The rapid heat heater is an electric grid heater that is mounted behind the heater core in the plenum. Its rated at 1100 watts and remains on until coolant temp reaches 163 degrees then shuts off. Its a nifty setup that provides nice instant heat.
