I know its not a Ford, but its a good work truck! I have an 89 Dakota and I have a funky problem with my driver side tail light. When I have the lights on, it is lit, but when I apply the brakes, the light goes out. When the lights are off, the brake light lights up when I hit the brakes. The turn signal doesnt blink, so I have to do it manually, but if I have the brakes on, it barely does anything. When it rains, everything works fine. I have noticed that the flashing speed varies after it starts to dry, and then it does back to not flashing. I thought maybe it was the ground, but I ran a new ground wire from the light and grounded it to clean metal on the frame, but nothing has changed. This is very frustrating! I have to drive this in the city, so I dont want to get hit because someone couldnt see my directional. Can anyone give me some advice/help??? Thanks much.
I'd start with a new bulb, then a new socket. Then make sure you have a good ground under the hood. There are a LOT of things an electrical gremlin could be.
Well guys, the bulb is new and it still does it. The socket is a good possibility since it works when it gets wet. I should be able to go to the parts store and get a new one. The wiring actually looks to be in decent shape, but I know shorts can happen anywhere. Its the damnedest thing, its a champ when its wet, but as it dries, it gets choppy so to speak. I have watched the bulb flicker as I was testing it and it goes from bright to dim so I am really leaning towards a ground somewhere. Anyone else have any input?
Well, I replaced the socket and the flasher and low and behold, its like I have a new truck. Thanks everyone for the help. You guys are much better than the Dodge forum I tried!
