I am swapping my original 1954 223cid with a rebuilt 1962 223cid. Due to the difference in frame lengths, mine being shorter, I now need to fabricate a new front motor mount. Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions, (other than installing a V-8)!! LOL.!! At this point in time my only option is to fabricate something. If there are other options, I would love to know. Thanks!
P.S. I will try to post pictures on my gallery so you can all see my predicament.
I'm probably missing something here, but why can't you remove the front mount bracket from the 54 and bolt it to the 62 the bosses should be on the engine maybe covered in crud?
The mounting holes are still on the '62 block for the front mounting system, as they weren't removed, just the location of the mount was changed after '60 to mid-block.
Suggestion # 2; as my first one wasn't that helpful. The front mount on my 55 bolts to the timing chain cover which is cast and not stamped steel as the one in the pictures you posted; since it appears the crank pulley and balancer are similar you should be able to swap the timing chain covers and use the earlier mount.
That's funny you mentioned that. At one point I contemplated that but it was getting hot out and I was getting hungry so within a few seconds that thought went poof!. I will look into that a little further as I wouldn't doubt that it will work. Thanks again! If any of these work I will feel everyone in.
