i have a 53f-100 with a 429 big block out of a 70 t-bird its running stock everything except for headers and a quadrajet. The problem is at idle it pops through the exhaust almost like a backfire
idle is at 650 rpm after 1000 rpm the pop dissapears. i am thinking timing? far advanced/retarted. It probbaBly sounds worse than it is due to my 2 chamber flowmaster 40's with 3" true duals but it annoys me and i am only 16 and its my first project so any help is appreciated. I do know all the specs on the motor
(comp ratio etc..) if ya need to know

Does it do it on both sides or just one side? Are your collector gaskets in good shape? It could be alot of things like timing, valves, idle mixture, or even an exhaust leak. Hook up a timing light and set it to factory specs. Also hook up a vacume gauge and watch for any big fluctuations, and while your at it try re-adjusting your idle mixture.
If that Quadrajet jet came off anything smaller than a big block it may be too lean. What are the numbers on the carb? They should be on the drivers side starting with a 70 or a 170. I've seen people put quadrajets on big blocks or modified small blocks and expect them to work even though they have no idea what the carb is tuned for.
sounds like both sides exaust is 100% brand new have yet to test timing need to clean balencer and chalk it truck drives 100% after 1000 rpm i will check the numbers on monday the truck is in auto at highschool. if you have aol/aim please im me measter10 so i can better explain
also werent quadrajets just gm it says quadrajet right on the side of the carb any ideas appreciated
