I have an 85 fullsize bronco. I got the "new" tranny off of a 90 fullsize bronco. looks the same they are both the A4OD but the "new" one has the numbers 56 on the top and mine has 37. Also the bracket that holds the bar (lol) to the tranny.(under the tranny to the frame...in the middle) its holes dont line up. Could i drill a hole and mount it (not into the tranny but into the bracket).
There's no such trans as A4OD. It should be an AOD, because the other possibility is the E4OD, and they were not in the '85 trucks. If you have an E4OD when the old trans is an AOD, you'll find that the E4OD won't shift because it needs a computer and the '85 truck doesn't have one that will work.
The numbers are just what die the case was cast in. It doesn't mean anything else. There are many different dies, all making the same case.
You can drill the crossmember to line up the holes, but why is the bracket not lining up? Is the new trans a different length than the old one?
