I'm new to this forum on this site, and also to all things 4x4. I was going up a little trail (maybe a 30 degree angle) and my '66 f100, 4x4 w/dana 60 4.10, started sputtering like fuel starvation. Whats the reason and cure for this? Laymans terms for the ignorant, please.
if your good at tuning carbs you can get a quadrajet to run almost up there with pane of EFI, I had a edelbrock, then holley, then q-jet and finally went to propane....gotpropane's x450 kit.....really nice complete kit and wheeling on propane takes you to a whole new level
Thanks for the lot of info to think about. This is for a 300ci straight six, 1bbl.
Quadzjr: How much are we talking about for the Avenger carb?
Rebocardo: This is a daily driver. Still a good carb adjustment/upgrade to Motocraft 2150? No experience tuning carbs but good at following directions. Thanks for the propane suggestion. I haven't looked at our forklift fuel lines or fittings lately but how complex can it be? Is this a simple transition?
Is converting to propane on a DD/ wheeler a possibility? It would be on a '75 Ford, so no smog stuff.. Also, what are the draw backs? Does it damage engines at all? Gas milage changes?
its entirely possible, but i would think it would be more realistic to go dual fuel, so you could still run gas if you cant get propane and your out. The actual mileage is worse, but thats because propane has less energy per unit, but is cheaper.
Propane is actually alot easier for me to get then gas. I live in a small town, and have to drive 40 miles to the nearest gas station, but the one store that we have locally sells propane.
I actually think I will be ordering a kit SOON. I read alot about them tonight, and I'm excited.

Actually, propane burns cleaner (less carbon) so you will not need to change your oil as often as it wont get dirty as quickly. It is less damaging on engines than petroleum.
I believe there is even a tax incentive for converting your vehicle to propane. Check with your local tax office. Here in Texas, the tax break was larger than the cost of the kit.
