351M in a 40?????

Hi, I have a 1940 ford pickup with a 8.8 turbo t-bird rear mustang II rack it is chopped and channeled had a 454 CH*** in it got rid of it want to go with 5.0 a friend of mine says to go with 351M what would be the difference in H.P. and how tough is the 351 M I know the cleveland was good as was the windsor but what about the modified???? 40, I suggest you forget the Ms, they are far from a performance motor, and are big and heavy compared to the W motors. If you want to go fast, get a 351W HO, if you just want to drive with good power and economy, go for the 5.0. They'll both run circles around an M in your '40.

Nathan, thanks I want to run a 5.0 HO from a mustang the truck only weighs 2700# it should really fly. and still be practicle as far as running long or short distance. I'll keep everyone posted as it progresses thanks again. John Sugden (FATFORTY)

Good choice, the 5.0 HO should really fly in that truck, and get pretty good mileage to boot. Them Ms are truck motors, good low torque for pulling, but slow and thirsty. Post a pic if you can.

Nathan, as soon as I get a chance to go uncover it and take some pictures I will you will have to use your imagination though cause it ain't pretty!!!!LOL right now it is pretty much just primer some old paint yet and some old rust yet!!!! but it will be super when it's done. JOHN(FATFORTY)
