overdrive??

overdrive??

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">Hi, i have a 1995 f150 straight 6, with the auto trans, i just have a small question about the overdrive feature, on the gear selector, it says overdrive and the light to tell you if its on or off, my question is when is overdrive on, is it when the light is off, or on, and do i want to drive with overdrive on or off? thanks all

well, if it is the same as on my truck,just turn the ignition key on and see if the light is out. If the light is out it is in overdrive. When the ignition is turned off, then back on, the engine controls revert the trans settings back to O/D.

When I press mine to lock it out, the light comes on. Isuggest you drive it and see. Press the button while cruising. If the engine rpm's speeds up, you have just turned off the O/D, if rpm's drop you have just shifted into O/D. Watch for the light when you do this and you'll know from then on what the light really means.

Yeah most of the time its good to drive in overdrive or really its doesnt matter but for highway it lowers your engine rpm greatly like another gear
