Compact Oil Filter
Has anyone seen or used a compact (short) oil filter that replaces the Motorcraft FL1A or Fram PH8A filters used on many Ford engines? I have some clearance issues with the oil filter on an engine swap, and a 'shortie' filter would be just the ticket. I saw one on a small diesel that is about the same diameter, but only about 2.5" long. I haven't been able to find it or similar now that I have a use for a short filter.

Ford used a short filter on engines equipped with an oil cooler. Those were found on some of the heavier 351's and 460's in these year trucks. I want to say that it is an FL820S if you want to give it a try. I don't know for sure that it is just a shortened version or if the threads or different or what.

The WIX part number is 51068 or 51085. The FL820s is a metric thread.
The 51085 is a Dodge filter that fits fine, the 51068 is a old ford filter for the cars that had a 90 degree adapter for the filter.

Prolly already answered by somebody else. But, go to your catalog and look up a oil filter for a '76 Mustang II with the 302 motor. It's about half the size of the FL1A and has the correct threads unlike the metric 820.
