question for you load gurus...

hey guys and gals, got a quick Q for ya. i'm building a hitch-mount rack to hold my 2 dirtbikes for a 7000mile round trip back home. i have a class 5 hitch already, the rack will weigh near 120lbs, about 560lbs with the 2 bikes aboard. it will stick off the back of the truck about 3 feet ftom the hitch, and yes i'm putting lights on it!! i'm just wondering if i should look into getting overload springs, airbags, both, or should i be good to go?? thanks for your time...

sherm

On a half ton truck? I would feel safer with a trailer. You would be popping wheelies with that setup.

Why can't you put them in the bed? Trailers aren't expensive at all, talking barely $1000 for a little one, maybe $3000 for a really nice one.

the bed will be for other stuff, and i don't enjoy hauling a trailer. the ferry rates almost double with a trailer, cost isn't my problem, i just like this idea, its easy to store when not in use

Are your bikes the same size and weight as the ones featured in the links?
