Does anybody know of anygood DIY Paint Kits? Has anyone ever had any luck with a Krylon job? And, what tips/advice do ya'll have for me, because I want to put a new paint job on my '87, because half the truck has clearcoat the other half it has peeled off, and there is red primer showing through everywhere on this truck. I'm not lookin for a show winning paintjob, just a good 20 foot paint job. I thought about just using Kyrlon rattle cans, since I used some to redo my bumper and tailgate (its an aftermarket louvered one), and they look ok.
I cant tell you anything about this paint but check out www.paintforcars.com They have a really good price on their paint. I am learning about body work and I am going to try their Arctic White. It is easier to spend $69.00 and have to sand it back off than spend $200.00 plus dollars and have to sand it back down because I didnt do something right. They also have the 2K primer kits for about the same price.
Do a search for roll on paint jobs and see what you come up with, also I have heard really good things about Dupli-Color, not to mention the few small projects I used it for.
I repainted my 68 Falcon Futura back in the day when I had one for a DD. The original color was Brittany Blue. Similar to the Windviel Blue on the new Stangs. The paint on top of anything on the car was gone and it was rusting. I had a sander, paper and about $35 to fix it up. So I sanded everything on top of the car above the pinstrip on the top edge of the fenders and along the sides as well as I could. I bought some Rustoleum (rattlecan) grey primer and taped off the good areas, chrome, and windows. Then sprayed ten very thin coats of paint all over the sanded areas. I then got some generic rattlecan spray paint from the auto parts store that was the approximate color of the car. Wet sanded the primer very lightly. Just enough to get the bumps off and rough up the primer to get the color paint to stick. And sprayed several coats of paint (maybe ten 16 oz.cans) all over in thin layers. Once I pulled off the masking and paper it was a totally new looking car. From say 10 feet or more. If you got up close it was apparent that the car had a repaint. But I drove that car as a DD for five more years, and the paint job lasted! I'd do it again if I had to. Course now I'm rich and can afford car payments on five year old cars...
BTW, there's an article on roller painting your car. HOT ROD Magazine. one maybe two months ago. You might check them out online and do a search. You may want to do that instead. Up till WWII alot of cars were brush painted, then rubbed out to a mirror finish. Just a thought.

I like the dupli-color lacquer. Its easy to use dries fast and easy to fix if you crap it up. I did my first truck paint job with this stuff and I couldn't be happier. Great for a first timer. Gonna shoot 3 coats of clear this weekend and its DONE. I can't wait to post some pics.
