Welcome to FTE

FTE has VIN decoders on site, or you can post it here, and one of us can decode it for you. Decoder: Go to forums, scroll down and find the one that relates to your truck.

Not too sure about the older numbering system. I know that--for 1991, anyway--Canadian trucks with the 17-character system have a 2 instead of a 1 as the first character in the VIN. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Your profile says 1992 F150, but the VIN you posted is from a much earlier truck from at least 1963 or before. I have the 1953 and 1964/65 refs. After 1965, the VIN info is the same as US vehicles. So, exactly what year is it?

From the 1953 Mercury Truck Parts Catalog: 83 is prolly the body code for a Flareside pickup, and H is the code for the Windsor, Ontario Assembly Plant. 21854 is the numerical sequence of assembly. That's all I could find.

The truck with this serial # BD83H49-21854 is the one that I plan to purchase if I can find out exactly what type and year it is. 1946-1953.

Suggestion: Look through the FTE member galleries. You have the following choices for "what year does it resemble?" 1942-47; 1948-50; 1951-52; 1953-56.

If I understand your post correctly, the truck in question was built between 1946 and 1953. That covers three different styles of truck. I think NumberDummy is right on target with the suggestion to peruse the members' galleries.

I could look at the front sheet metal and identify the truck if the front sheet metal was with the vehicle. That is why I am trying to decode serial #.

The dashboards are different between the same models I posted earlier. Somewhere on the net, is a Mercury truck vin decoder. Several ppl have posted refs to it here on FTE in the past. I'll see if I can find the ref, and bump it...
