Rebuilding a 360
Hi All,
I have a 70 F100 with a C6 and about 100,000 miles on it. The exhaust manifolds were missing a couple of bolts it was lacking any power so I am going for a rebuild....my first time. Currently the engine is out. The heads (they are off) have C8AE-H and the block has 352 on front drivers side. The pipes after the manifold have holes in them.It had a 2 barrel.
I am looking at going to an aluminum manifold, 4 barrel, and 390. This is new to me so I would appreciate input...on a HEALTHY>>>yet dependable outcome...thanx....chuck in cal

best advice: buy the book Big-Block ford engines by Steve Christ for $16 ISBN 0-89586-070-8
Do at least some of the oil mods, match the oil port to the bearings on the mains, use a HV oil pump, drill out the passage from the oil pump to the filter adapter. make sure the piston is zero decked (very near or at the top of the deck at TDC) Make sure the bearing clearance is proper.
The upgrade to a 390 is cheap and well worth the money, the 390 is a better engine for a truck. Just swap the rods and get standard car type 390 pistons. I paid a race shop a few hundred to do the assem of mine and feel it's well worth the extra money. Make a lot of calls for prices and see if you can get a good speed shop to rebuild it for you, the money isn't that much more and I've found that a speed shop will use the best parts.
