Might need replacement coils
Guys I might have fried one of my coils on my '99 expy EB 5.4L. I took my truck threw some mud last thursday and I felt the need to clean ithe engine bay since it was covered. So off to the do-it-yourself car wash I went. Well afterwards my engine started running rough and didn't seem to have any power. So I drove it home with the hood popped open hoping that maybe 50mph winds would dry anything wet up. Nope. What I am hoping is that in the morning it will have dried and run fine again otherwise I will have to go threw the grooling process of figuring out what coil is bad.
I even took great care not to soak areas where the coils live and not use the full power of the pressure washer on the engine. Oh well I guess. Luckily I am a mechanic for AAA and have all sorts of tools at my disposal.

To answer your Q, I am 99% sure those Mustang COPs will work on your Expy. Call Autozone or Advanced and ask them if they cross reference to be sure.

Now it runs so smooth, I can hardly even tell its running. When I yanked each COPS the boots were not wet and before I yanked each plug (123k on original plugs) I used compressed air to blow each hole out and just dust came out so I know there was no water down in the holes.
I am just glad that this is over and it runs better then ever.

my expy has 91,000 miles on it, should i just change all the cops?
says my #7 has a misfire. also,,, any idea where the # is located?
Thanks for any info in advance. The idea of my truck running smoother gets me all HOT haha.
Now for your issue, your gonna have fun since you've never done this. First the easy part, buy a Haynes manual at your favorite Auto store, it will give you a detailed listing of repairs up to rebuilding your vehicle and where stuff is. Second, the COPs are located on top of the spark plug, above the valve cover where the intake manifold meets the head. The plug well comes in on top of your cylinder head as opposed to the old side insert. Your 8mm bolt that holds the COP in place is screwed into the manifold. Be careful when retightening this, a good snug is fine, you don't want to crack the COP or break the head off the bolt.
No you don't replace all the COPs, they run around $45-55 at the local Auto store, $99 from Ford. Just replace them as needed, I have lots of experience with these with 472k on mine.
The #7 is located driver side just beside & behind the throttle body. Its easy, the plugs are listed 1-4 front to back passenger side, 5-8 driver side front to back. Don't work on this one hot, you'll be very unhappy during and afterward. Its in a tight spot, you'll need a 8mm socket maybe with a swivel. You may have to loosen your fuel rail, some folks do, some not. Reason being the COP is almost under the fuel pressure regulator. Remove the connector on the COP. Then remove the fuel injector connector(s), it'll give you some finger room. It should pull up and out with a bit of effort, be careful the boot doesn't stay with the plug.
After removing the COP, make sure you blow out the hole with an air nozzle. If moisture caused this failure it will do so again unless dried out. Use a piece of approx. 12" vacuum hoze on the nozzel to direct the air in the cylinder, its fairly deep compared to what your used to on plug wells. After that, your COP package should come with some silicone sealant antisieze, put that around the base and just inside the lip of the new boot and install the new COP.
I know this is long, but I hope it isn't boring for ya. Just making sure you have a handle on what's to come.
