I have a 1999 F-150 that is badly overheating and stalls out at stop lights( even when running at normal temp. ) I replaced the thermostat, and then I brought it to Autozone and they told me I had fuel too lean bank 1 and 2, and told me that I needed a new mass airflow sensor I bought one and tested the old one and it comes up with the same voltage as the new one when I put it in. But I don't thing the MAF has anything to do with overheating but I am not sure. I also think I might have a leak in my head gaskets but not sure of sure fire way to find out with out bringing to the shop any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does it overheat at highway speeds or just in stop and go traffic? Is the radiator overflow bottle getting a dark color to it? Is there any smoke out of the tailpipe?
It overheats worse in stop and go traffic but will still run hot during highway traveling. The fluid in the degas bottle looks more brownish then it should but it is still green. I haven't seen smoke out the tailpipe but I will check that. I also took the degas bottle cap off and ran until normal temp and there weren't any bubbles so I put it on and took it off a couple of minutes later and still nothing.
The truck has about 130,000 miles on it. Is there anyway to tell if the radiator is bad as for the water pump I have heard that if it isn't leaking it is good(don't know if it is right or not) no coolant leakage but seems to drip water even when A/C isn't on, dont know if that is anything but it isn't green or brown fluid
as for the water pump, the little impeller blades on it could have disintegrated especially if its origional there for not pushing enough collant thro. i seen one come off a taurass when the blades were less then paper thin, cant remember how many miles it had on it
