Well it finally happened, took our 36ft quad slide 5th wheel from seattle to South Dakota for vacation. Was just passing into Idaho (about 300 miles) and the CEL comes on our 06 F350. Continued on for another 1100 miles or so with the light on over many high passes. Boy I never realized that I-90 climbs and drops over so many different hills and passes. Weather was hot in the nineties and the fan got a real work out. When we finally got to our RV park I called the local Ford dealer and made an appointment to check the CEL. The code, I think, was P609 (?) they said "low turbo boost". The tech said Ford says to remove and clean the turbo and reinstall to see if that takes care of it, but the tech said his opinion is that the turbo is going bad and should be replaced. So, they gave me a rental car and off I went. Next day, about noon, I get a call that the trucks ready to pick up. The tech says that when he got the turbo out the vains were pitted and worn (?). I did not notice any change in performance with the new turbo, still seemed to run good, considering that we were pulling a heavy trailer up and down all those hills (on the way home we went across to Yellowstone and spent a few days there, pulled the trailer over a 7800 foot pass.) I asked if it was rebuilt or new and was told it was a new turbo. I can't quite put my finger on it but when looking under the hood there is something that seems a little different about the new turbo to me. After leaving Yellowstone we headed Northwest to Idaho to spend a day a Silverwood before getting home. On the way I noticed oil splatter on the shocks and after closer examination saw that the pinion seal at the differential/drive shaft connection was leaking. Took the truck into a Ford dealership in Idaho and they replaced the seal and topped off the dif fluid. Tech said not to worry about driving while the seal was leaking cause it's hard to loose a lot of fluid way up high in the front of the dif. Finished the last 300 miles without incident and all seems OK for now.
Any thoughts or comments? Anything I should watch out for? The techs said there really wasn't anything I could do for either incident different then I was doing. I do use diesel Kleen every tank fill.

Welcome to the replacement turbo club! Do you do a lot of short trips? Short trips where the motor doesn't reach full operating temperature can rust your turbo.
What would be "a lot of short trips"? My wife drives the truck to work every day, which is about 22 miles each way. I'd say twice a week she drives 5 or 6 miles at lunch time to do some shopping. Week ends are the most likely to have a short 1 or 2 mile trip to the grocery store.
Oh, and I forgot earlier, but the mileage at replacment was 28,820.

on our 05 psd the cel came on and said low boost. i would even no it, it seemed to run fine and have normal power?? but a new turbo and we were alset
p.s. this was when it haad about 25-28k miles also.. it now has 33.5k woth no probs except the head module for the heat and a/c buttons (for lariats) had to be replaced

I would think that a daily 44 mile round trip would eliminate the short trip issue in your case.
