Hello all,
Lately, my 93 F 250 has been stalling. It starts and runs fine, but if you take the RPM's up and then take you foot off the gas, it dips below the idle speed and stalls. At highway speeds it does not happen due to the fact that the momnetum keeps the R's up, but in traffic or in the driveway it occurs. I purchased a new fuel filter (Purolator F54692) in hopes this might help as I know diesels are finicky about clean fuel, but I have never installed one. It comes with an "O" ring and a wedged shaped gasket. The instructions say to refer to my manual. (I don't have one) Any help would be appreciated.
The instruction manual leaves a lot to be desired. (just looked) Ford fuel filter # is FD-3375. Basically you remove filter from vehicle. Unscrew the bottom sensor from filter. (be sure to have something to catch the fuel under it). With new filter. Very lightly lube both gaskets with some new motor oil. Screw on the bottom sensor. Fill filter with clean diesel fuel to top of filter. Screw on to truck filter body. You then can fire up the truck. It might run a little rough until the air gets out of the fuel system. Oh yes don't run the starter more than 15 seconds with 3 minute cool off as this might damage the starter.
Oring goes on the base, wedged goes on the top lip up... oil each liberally hand tight on the base........ hand tight on the filter to header then 1/2 turn with filter wrench. Always pre fill the filter with additives or clean diesel via the outer ring of holes so as it is filtered.......

You governor is hanging in the pump. Some guys have ran an additive in the fuel and it has taken care of the problem.
GUYS,
Thanks, I replaced the filter (after filling it with diesel kleen), and it seems to be running fine. 1 post--1 problem solved. You guys are great !
