Someone just told me that there's a regular black market of stolen F150 tailgates on Ebay. His buddy parked his F150 at San Francisco Airport, and someone must have opened his 'gate halfway, popped it off and taken it. $$$
The upper trim packages do have a tailgate lock, which would prevent this. As I bought the XL work truck package, I don't.
He says that even if your 'gate came without a lock, that there is a knockout in there, and you can easily add a cylinder. Has anyone done that with a 2002 F150? Can you get a cylinder keyed to your ignition key?
another common remedy to this. is...... go get a hose clamp and put it around the passanger side hinge of the tailgate.this will prevent the part from being slide out and your tailgate from being stolen.. cheap and easy fix.
