93 bed into a 77 bed possible?

hey guys i bought a 93 bed it perfect shape except for paint to put on my 77, I know that it looks different then the cab and such but is there a way to modifie it so that i could make it look original i was thinking of buying the bedsides for my year and modifieing the bed so that i can put the bedsides on. Also is there a difference in lengths between the to year tailgates because my 77 tailgate dosent quite fit in between. Any one done this at all,i just dont want to spend alot of money on a bed. I am in the middle of restoring my 77 f150 4x4 shortbed, it has a 351m c6 tranny. I am doing a frame up restoration because i want a nice ride not a hack job rom hell. I bought it and the guy before me shoved a whole lot of foam up in the cab corner, what a mess and also the bed was bad, he used at least a gallon of bondo on the damn thing, thats why i bought the bed to just put on the truck until i find one, but tell me what you think.

There is a guy near here that did what you are proposing. His factory bed was trashed inside and out. He bought a newer bed and put 78 sides on it. If i remeber right there was a small amount of modifying near the tailgate but i dont remeber what it entails.

I've never tried it, but you should be able to skin the bedsides off (that's a lot of spot weld drilling) and replace them with older bedsides. Granted you're going to have to go fiberglass or find decent stell sides off a 73-77 bed to do this.
I'm not pisitive on the tailgate but I'm pretty sure the mounting and latching hardware is different. You might be able bolt the older catches, etc. onto the newer bed....
